Is Investigative Journalism ethical? By Najeebullah
The case for the investigative journalism is a simple one. It’s about getting right down to the basic facts of the situation and exposing whatever the journalist feels is inappropriate. I don’t think investigative journalism itself can be labelled as ethical or unethical but rather what the journalist feels is worthy of investigation can be ethical or unethical. I’m not saying that investigative journalism is always going to be the right thing but I am saying that at times it has its advantages. Everybody wants to know about what’s going on inside intelligence agencies that aren’t transparent. I don’t understand how people can complain about investigative journalism. It digs up a lot of dirt that can be taken care of. It also has its drawbacks. It’s not necessarily ethical, sometimes illegal, and always problematic. But in the end it gets its uses.
